Haunted by the Second World War, American Army Col Richard Cantwell (Liev Schreiber) is a hero who faces news of his illness with stoic, even reckless, disregard. Determined to spend a weekend in solitude, he commandeers a military driver (Josh Hutcherson) to facilitate a visit to Venice. There he will meet a young aristocrat (Matilda De Angelis) on his seach for the perfect hunting guns. Based on Ernest Hemingway's homonymous novel.
